About me - Marleen

I am Marleen and painting has accompanied me for over 20 years. It is an important part of my life. 

Creativity has always been a part of my life – not always in the form of art, but art eventually found its way to me, at just the right moment.  

In my work I mainly use acrylic paints and various materials. I simply call my technique mixed media with three-dimensional surfaces. The game with structures and surfaces fascinates me. I love to experiment with different tools and materials and to see what comes about. Each layer, each texture tells its own story.

I work mainly in my studio in Cyprus, where it took me by chance. The peace, the sea and the light here inspire me every day anew.

My works are unique - they cannot be repeated in the exact same way, because the materials develop their own lives when drying. Cracks occur where I don't plan them. Structures are forming that I cannot control. And that's exactly what makes every work special.

In my studio I can be who I am. I am allowed to feel without explaining. And that's exactly what I want to pass on with my art – images that touch something in you without needing words.
